I’ll spend a few days next week in PI with the family. I generally spend the majority of my “fishing the surf” time in the sound at Edisto. I would assume same tactics but wanted to double check and make sure. Is there much difference in fishing the surf in the sound at Edisto vs the open ocean of PI?
Reel,
I would fish Midway Inlet (north pawleys) and the creek on the southside. Lots of crabs in the creek so be prepared. I would suggest fishing the jetty @ huntington beach state park. you will have to walk 1.5 miles to it, but it seems to be a productive spot. if you go to garden city, walk down to the north jetty. that area produces well. the north jetty access will flood at high tide so you will be stuck on the beach for a couple of hours. Good luck
I have had the best luck at the North inlet at PI. Caught a lot of flounder & trout, usually couple hours after tide starts coming back in. Only bad part is not much parking, just have to find a spot on side of road nearby. Hopefully you staying on that end of the island & can walk to it.
good luck.
x2 on what James & areeldrag said. The current can be pretty strong in Midway at certain stages of the tide, and parking always sucks.
If you get out early enough or find an area not so crowded, the jetties in the surf of Pawley’s can produce as well.
The walk to the jetties at Hunting Beach State Park isn’t too bad when the wind is at your back and if you don’t have a ton of gear to haul. The surf on the way to HBSP jetties often has some “structure” meaning shifting bars and troughs.
I haven’t been to the North Jetties via garden city in a few years. Last time I went the erosion was so bad, the houses almost had water under them at high tide.
