I am a good bit into my second pot of coffee. Forty three hours of travel to get home from this trip, just as long to get there, and worth every second.
The trip was organized by Sami of Saltywater Tackle in NJ. A buddy of mine from Texas went on it last year and asked me to join this year. Giant Trevally, more affectionately known as GT’s were my main target. There would be other species but the GT’s are likely the hardest fighting for there size in the ocean. Explosive top water strikes, bulldog fights and razor sharp reef make it combat fishing at its finest.
India is a funny place. Very friendly people but very poor for the most part. They live a simple life and seem not to be bothered by the things that matter to us Westerners. We fished out of the Town of Port Blair in the Andamans. To give you an idea of how remote this area is, a tribe was found on one of the islands in the chain about 40 years ago, they had not discovered fire yet. Some of them are rumored to practice cannibalism still and it is illegal to step foot on any of the out islands. The fishing was spectacular. It was jigging and popping only and I can only imagine how many casts our group put in over 5 solid days of fishing, it was a lot.
The species list included GT, grouper, snapper, trevally, dogtooth tuna, yellowfin tuna, wahoo, barracuda, AJ’s, a blue marlin hookup on a popper and a follow from some sailfish on a stick bait. Here are the photos.
The crew consisted of anglers from the US, Australia, England and Brazil.
Looks like an epic trip. Andaman Islands is place on my list if I go to India- good waves and good fishing equals a great time! lets see some fish pics
Awesome pictures! Incredible trip… India is an interesting place. I spent a month there… The cows eating trash is so common, it’s unbelievable. The striking thing is that there will be a woman out there milking that cow the next day. Thanks for sharing!
