Can anyone please recommend an insurer for boats?
USAA doesn’t cover boats, they put me on to progressive who quoted me about $350, but that doesnt include theft which I would think would make sense. What should i be paying roughly, 2005 Pathfinder, would like replacement value.
We switched from State Farm to Boat US last year. Saved a couple hundred dollars for similar coverage/deductibles and got better peripheral coverage (rods, tackle, etc). Paying a little over $300 for a 2012 22’ Bay similar to yours. You can set the agreed hull value to what you want, higher value costs more. Haven’t had a claim so can’t speak for the service for either insurance that we’ve had.
I like the coverage I get using Boat US. Make sure to check stuff like environmental liability as well as your usual stuff. Tow Boat US has pretty comprehensive coverage. Fair price.
Call Strickland, tell them exactly what you have and what you want. They found a great deal for me through traveler’s a few years back. I got more coverage and a whole lot better rate. They do the shopping around for you.
I have my seahunt bx22pro tied in with my homeowners and it covers tackle and all the rest along with $500,000 liability. cost less than $175 per year. it has all the necessary coverage. By the way. i have been using Farm Bureau for over 25 years. they do a great job for us.
So i went with Boat US and looks like they have their own tow service. I think that means i dont have to enroll in another tow services, is that correct?
Since when did USAA stop insuring boats? I had boat insurance with them for years. I dropped it after I started keeping it on the hill instead of at the dock.
BoatUS insurance will pay upto your amount listed in the policy. BoatUS Towing service levels (unlimited, limited, lakes, etc.) will pay the entire bill (+ better rates if salvage is needed). It’s like double coverage sort of (& worth it IMHO). BoatUS Insurance also gives you EXCELLENT Pollution Liability coverage god forbid you need it (boat sinks, USCG responds, see the fuel sheen on the water, nails you with Fuel/Oil spill response/charge).
Bottom line - want excellent boat insurance coverage with reasonable cost, excellent claim service - go with Boat US
If you low coast insurance, go with Progressive/Geigo - expect hassle if you have a claim/need towing.

My smaller boats were insured with Strickland Marine through Travelers, for the best rates on a coastal boat. The new boat is much larger, so the insurance is more and Boat US was a much better price for the same coverage. It’s easy to get a quote from both sources over the phone.
I am about to call some of these mentioned here. Progressive just sent my renewal and they went up 25%. $248 on a $14k boat. Insane. They said it was because of the floods last year. What a bunch of crap.
