Intercoastal Waterway

A number of years ago I spent a significant amount of time working in the intercoastal waterway from Cape May to Manasquan Inlet New Jersey. The scope of my work was all related around dredge sampling and hydrographic surveying of the intercoastal. I was amazed at how shallow the ditch was in many parts of that area. I distinctly remember a half dozen Viking sportfishers passing us on their way from the factory to a large boat show in Maryland. The captains had to keep on plane as many of the areas where less than 3 feet deep. They would run by throwing an enormous muddy wake that was breaking due to the shallows. There are a significant number of areas within South Carolina that have been silting in recently including Fields Cut that runs into Georgia and Georgia itself has many areas that are even worse off. This weeks article comes to us courtesy of Boat US Magazine with some good news in regards to funding for dredging these areas. Provided herein is their full report…
