Another very nice fall…well…winter? day in the surf. Mid 70’s air temp, bright sunshine, light wind, very light surf @ around 60 degrees.
On the beach a couple hours before low.
A bunch of small Whiting with a few beefier ones. A dozen or so baby Black Drum, lost count on the number of Rays, arms are still sore, most were in the 18"-20" wide range. One Blue fish, and one decent Speck…in the surf?..in December??? [:0] The Starfish are showing up again, not sure if this happens every year? I really didn’t notice them until last winter. (Now would be a great time for a comment from one of those crack shot Marine Biology dudes).
Again my most favorite time of year on the beach! Great sunset on the ride home.
The black drum are every where this year all 8-12 inches, lately all I’ve been catching is black drum, black sea bass, and silver perch but I haven’t been fishing much. I want to go fish the rocks on sully’s but I haven’t managed to get a good opportunity between tides, time, and weather.
Mr Parker, thats a nice looking trough, and thats a really solid showing. Usually for me when the water is that flat I dont fare so well. Ive always been quick to compliment you, its for a reason, your knowledge, numbers, variety and yes "size " are consistently impressive, you truly love what your doing and it shows, winter “catching”, fantastic
The Black Drum bite always gets good, in the surf, when the water temp drops into the 60’s. Nov.-Dec. seem to be the best months for numbers with some occasionally in the 28"-30" range. But most will be slot sized and smaller. It has been a busy year for me. Normally I would be in the surf 4-5 days a week. This year, 4-5 times a MONTH! Makes it hard to find good spots and “follow” them with tide changes.
And Pete, your comments are always great, but you sir are a heck of a fish catcher yourself! You slayed the Bull Reds this season! I rarely land more than 4-5 Reds over 30" (in the surf) all year.
Glad you’re able to get out there David. Looks like a fun day.
Like you, I’ve been working a lot and have only got to go fishing a relative few times in 2015 compared to most years. I hope 2016 will be better. Merry Christmas !
