Very slow day. Nice weather for fishing though…guess that’s all that really matters.
On the beach around 10:45, surf was a little big, kinda cloudy, light SSE wind, 6oz on the light rods, 8oz on the bigger. Fresh shrimp and cut finger Mullet. Not a skunk, but definitely slow. Managed a hand full of decent Whiting and 6-7 smallish Rays. All caught on shrimp no “noticeable” bites on Mullet. Water temp still holding around 60. Off the beach at 5:00.
Thanks for the report Mr. Parker, quite a bit of grass on that beach and beautiful pictures as always. I’m debating on getting out with little Pete. Do you have any tips for targeting the black drum, I know you have had plenty of success with them, and would like better my odds if we get the opportunity to go, what else is hitting right now, hope you had a nice Christmas. Check out fat rats whiting on one of the other forums its a good one
You’re welcome Pete. The grass was not a problem at all. No Black Drum for me on Sunday. It seems the Black Drum are in the troughs 2-3 hours before and after low tide. Nice quiet surf seems best as well, I don’t think they like getting knocked around. I’m a fresh shrimp guy, but quartered blue crab would be good too. Keep your hooks small and sharp. The bite is normally pretty light. Rod tip will “pull” rather than hit as they mouth the bait. There are still some fat Whiting, and the occasional Red drum. Sometimes you can find a group of Rat Reds this time of year. And of course…Stingrays.
Stop by your local seafood store. I use med. Shrimp, most the time cut in half, shell on. When the fish are thick, I’ll cut them into thirds. I do freeze my bait a few hours before my trip to firm them up a little.
