When you see “Old Glory” waving in the breeze, know that it is the dying breaths of our fallen hero’s that makes it wave.

Good to see the black Drum coming back Captain Quint, thats the first one I’ve seen someone catch this year. Talk to you soon, heading out this weekend:smiley:

Funny fact about the trip. Went to a newer spot that has some promise. Got to the beach kinda late’ troughs were emptying quick, had to fish through the tide turn. Was very slow with zero bites. My wife, on most trips, takes a very long walk when we first arrive. When she got back she says, “There are some nice troughs and holes down the beach.” I asked her if they had water in them. “Yep”. We packed up and moved about 25 blocks. 10-15 mins after getting set up the Black Drum started to bite…

Good thing she don’t fish.

For the new folks. Mr. Parkers picture is a good example of where to be fishing. You see in his picture a line of waves breaking. Thats a sand bar. You see the “dark” water in front of the line of waves breaking. Thats a trough. The deeper the trough the more productive it is. As the tide comes in and fills the trough, target this area and cast bait into it. Allot of the time I cast cut shrimp into the trough up front. Catch whiting, reds and other fish. Then cut the whiting up and cast out a couple of cut baits on the back side of the line of waves breaking/the sand bar. After deploying cut bait to the back side of the bar, then continue to work the inside trough with your cut shrimp and target both areas at the same time. If your fishing the out going tide, at a certain point when the trough up front starts to get shallow, the big reds will stop coming into the trough. They don’t want to get caught in it with the water dumping out and die. Then target the water deeper out. Allot of times when you find one trough, there will be other bars and troughs behind it. See if you find another line of waves breaking behind it and repeat the process. Fish inside of the bar and the outside of the bar. When you see a long line of waves breaking over a sand bar-look for a “cut” on the bar. Imagine drawing a long line on a piece of paper with a pencil. Then you erase a little bit in the middle. This area is the cut through area. You can identify this by seeing a break in the line of waves. Imagine this is the line of waves.

waves waves waves waves/ area of no waves / waves waves waves waves

The fish often use the area where it say’s “no waves” as a cut through. To put it simply they use this gap or cut as a passageway to get into and out of the trough when the water is to shallow to just come straight over the bar. They will roll through the cut and drop into the trough to eat the trapped bait fish. They will also set up just outside the cut on the o

Pete thats interesting information I tend to forget those strategy when going for surf fishing , I will try to create a graphical information based on your suggestion like a mini cheat sheet the timing for incoming and outgoing tide on where to cast makes really sense no wonder why you and parker catch the big fish :smiley::smiley:

Think I saw you down by the Citadel Clubhouse/Beach House…I caught a good number of Whiting…Not a Trout to be found though…

Didn’t fish the Citadel House area, is a good spot though. And a little early for Trout in the surf. Usually in May they will show up in the surf.

Ok…Funny somebody forgot to tell the trout that…Of course it depends on whether you are talking actual front beach…or very near Beach because I have already been catching some like every other year.At Sullivans the Weakfish are there…Admittedly I have only caught a couple Specks…I was at Citadel area catching Whiting…One of the best spots for it…every year…Have a good one
