Fished IOP on Saturday and Monday.
Saturday was beautiful day on the beach. Light winds, light surf, and very little current. Saw schools of small menhaden in the surf and managed to get a few in the net. They were only about 3-4 inches long. Fished shrimp, menhaden, and cut whiting. Caught lots of small whiting, a few blues, and 3 very large stingrays (on the menhanden and whiting strips). Best fish were a 20" ladyfish, a 14.5 inch whiting, a 15" black drum, and a 10" pompano.
Monday was rough. Same spot and time as Saturday, but very different conditions. Windy, rough surf, stong current (couldnt hold even with 4oz pyramid). Settled on fishing 3oz and re-casting every 5-10 mins or so. Stuck it out through a few rain showers. My 8 yr old daughter did not want to leave. “But daddy, were are already wet, who cares”. Fishing was slow. On fresh shrimp caught a few small whiting and one 13" red drum. Was my daughter’s first red, so that was the highlight of the day.
