Dusted off the rods and tried the surf for the first time this year. Not a bad way to start out! Caught on a fresh whole whiting at dead low tide.
My lovely 8-month pregnant wife waded across a thigh deep trough to get out to where I was to take pictures, so I’ll give her the glory!

Did you kayak the bait out?
No kayak. I just wade out about knee deep and try my best to cast the bait behind the closest set of breakers. I use a 7-foot Ugly Stik, so I’m not exactly getting a ton of distance. This has been pretty effective for blacktips of this size, but if you’re targeting a bigger species you’d probably have better luck by kayaking it out further.
