IOP Labor Day

Got to the beach couple hours before low. Great looking trough with a nice ditch runout. Calm surf light winds. After a few hours of fishing, I look up the beach and see Jack Taylor heading out. He joined the spread. Dispite the great conditions, the fishing was slow overall. Landed some Lady fish to chunk up, which produced some big Rays and a few small Sharks, Caught some small Rays a few Palometa and some Rat Reds on Shrimp. Absolutely no Whiting bites??? Was a beautiful day on the beach, it was great to see Jack and chat.

Sounds about what me and my wife caught on sulivans on labor day. We usually catch a ton of whiting but only caught 1. We caught lady fish pompano whiting and rays. If you dont mine me asking where abouts on iop did you fish. We are looking to stray away from sullivans but dont know our way around.

I have forgotten what a proper trough looks like. Sounds like you and Jack had a solid day:smiley:

Good to see DParker and fish a while. My time on the beach was not long enough and I only managed 3 rat reds. Great catching up with DP and hoping this storm misses us.

DP how many rods you usually fish when you set up? Just wondering what you do if a school comes by and you double or triple up? Good problem to have - just wondering?

Almost always have 4 lines in, sometimes 5 or 6. Multiple pull downs are common. The one bending the most is checked first. My wife doesn’t fish, but she has reeled in one or two over the years, and can clear lines if needed.
