IOP/ Pockoy Island surf

Gave IOP another shot on Sat. 6/13, change locations a bit, pretty much same results as last trip out. Small Whiting, one mid sized Ladyfish, nice jump show, and more baby sharks. On Sun., made my first trip to Pockoy Island. If you’ve never been there, it is beautiful. Thought it would be “less” busy
NOT! Both days on the beach in the morning, high tide, falling. Not my favorite, but it has been HOT. I had a little better results at Pockoy, at least in the morning. Some nice fat Whiting, which I cut for the “bigger” rods. Was hoping to pick up a Red drum or two. Landed one 12" Speck, early, sorry the pic got goofed, a couple of decent Sharpies
and
more
baby
sharks! Again though, on the beach:smiley:, sand between my toes:smiley:, reeled in some fish:sunglasses:
PERFECT WEEKEND!!!

Now a question for the Shark “experts”. I had a BIG pull down on a big rod, lots of weight, drop the bait. Let it sit. The second big rod went down, I let it run a bit on very light drag. Pick the rod up and started putt’in the drag to it. This Shark, I’m guessing a 5-6 footer, rockets out of the water 3-4 feet! Got tail whipped. You think maybe a Spinner? Black Tip? I don’t think my set-up would have landed it, but man what a leap!

nice pics! i hooked and landed a shark about 5’ that did what you just described. was one of the coolest fishing experiences i’ve had. no one was with me to take pics, but it looked like a black tip or a spinner.

It really could have been either one, but I would guess blacktip if only because they are the more common of the two species.

blacktip 99%. Spinners are usually offshore, they look similar with a few differences but in SC from land it’s safe to say everyone of them you see or land is a blacktip
