Went three times in past week. All early morning and mostly on a pretty high tide. Lots of whiting, a few small rays, and on Friday we caught 3 nice black drum. My son caught a 17 inch trout on Wednesday. I’ve been pleased with the size of the whiting this year with quite a few over 14 inches. While we’ve only had one big shark hookup, the action on the smaller fish has been great for the kids, catching 40-60 fish per morning. Nothing real fancy for our setup, just frozen shrimp on double drops and Carolina rigs. Most casts are less than 10yards from shore. Will be back at it this week for another 3-4 tries.
Great post and content
I might be changing tactics. Now on the north end of IOP and have a small tidal creek right at our rental house. There are nice sized reds in the creek. Got a 10-12lber jigging a shrimp. I think I’m addicted.
They will do that to you!

I tell my wife there’s allot worse things out there to be addicted to than fishing, thanks for your report Sir:smiley:
Great report, thanks !

Final report for me, as we have sadly left IOP and will have to wait another year…
Fished Monday morning on the north end of IOP where beach turns left into inlet. Caught whiting and black drum, but was kind of slow on a incoming tide. Had only one shark hookup, but hook came out.
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday I fished the tidal creeks around Wild Dunes. Lots of reds. Caught 10 on Tuesday morning especially about 2 hours into the incoming tide. On artificials, shassy shads and gulp shrimp worked for me. On Wednesday, cast nested mud minnows and shrimp. We fished the afternoon about midway through the outgoing tide. My friend caught reds on most casts with live bait from 15-23 inches long. I switched to my fly rod and caught 5 18-21 inches on flies from the guys in Mount Pleasant at Lowcounry fly shop. They sold me 4 flies and I caught fish on all of them. thanks guys.
Thursday we tried again in the afternoon on the outgoing tide, but little later in the tide cycle (was getting pretty low). my friend caught 5 reds on shrimp and minnows, but most were 15-16 inches. I stuck to the flyrod, but only managed a big mullet, flounder, a couple big blue crabs, and snagged a few oysters. Wasn’t what I was targeting, but a good mixed bag. First flounder and crabs on flies for me (and I even have a house on the chesepeake bay).
picture is of a red from Wednesday I took on the fly.
Thanks for all your great posts to help new guys learn quick.
