Hey everyone. I normally pier fish, but it is very difficult to pier fish with my sons (3 & 5) yr old. I need some help for surf fishing spots. I don’t get to go fishing too often, so when I do go, I like for my boys to catch a few fish. Can anyone tell me a few good spots to surf fish from at IOP, SI, and/or Folly? We went to station 16 at SI this past weekend and didn’t have any luck. Your help is greatly appreciated.
try fishing the rocks at the north end of folly on an incoming tide
I take my family to 9th St W toward county park (Folly). We have had some luck with whiting and shark. The good thing about the spot is that it has a ramp so if you have a cart you don’t need to carry anything up stairs.
You can also fish the bridge at breech on the inlet side, either center or right, there are oyster beds to the left of center. Plenty of whiting, croaker and even baby sharks about 10 to 12 in long.
IOP my favorite spots are the extreme ends. North or South. I don’t do much right on breech, but 5th to 2nd and then the north end anywhere from 35th all the way up to 57th. Depends on tide/weather and amount of people on the beach that day.
Papajohick…do you fish both ends of IOP b/c the beach has too many people or do you just find that the north and south ends are better fishing and fewer people?
Thanks guys. I really appreciate it!

south end will have less people there usually. North end can get busy due to wild dunes. THe north and south ends usually have some really nice troughs and cuts. The middle section of IOP for the most part (there are a few smaller ones) is very flat all the way out and Ive never had much luck. PLus the people haha
Agree with Polebender, 9th St. w is a very good spot. There is a nice trough right off the beach. My wife caught a 26" black drum there last year. Caught some whiting and a two small pompano a couple weekends ago. Also caught a good size topsail cat, haven’t caught one of those around here in years. Fresh bait is key, stop by the seafood store and pick up some fresh shrimp and peel it, also fresh cut mullet works. Good Luck !
