Iop/ sullivans surf fishing

Went out on 06/28 to fish the falling tide until dark. Found a nice sandbar and fished off the backside of it using cut bluefish and stingray for sharks while using shrimp for other species. Non stop bite on the shrimp. Caught tons of whiting and baby sharks. Had one huge run on the whole bluefish. Turns out i had hooked a small shark on the bluefish and never noticed it was on there. A larger shark picked it up and ran about 100 yards of 65 lb power pro before dropping the other small shark. Reeled it in covered it some good sized teeth marks. Never had a single hit on the stingray, suprising… It was a great day and we released everything we were catching. The fish loved the shrimp, theyd bite as soon as the sinker found the bottom. Now is a great time to take some kids out there and introduce them to fishing. Im going to give it another shot this week, hope to have some large shark pics to post later.

funny i had that happen with a baby shark but on a giant glob of squid…however it was belly up when i reeled it in to check my bait and was quickly gobbled up by the heron at the end of the island near the inlet. different spot a couple weeks ago i caught a near 4 foot dusky on a piece of stingray but nothing but whiing since then. id LOVE to catch another stingray or a big bluefish…but keep failing at that, however i caught a ton of hand sized pinfish earlier today on base so ill be trying tonight. good luck!

The live pinfish will work well. Ive had great luck in the past with large live mullet. It seems all the small sharks leave the live bait alone and only the bigger ones bite into big live baits. Goodluck

Ohio, caught 2 nice size rays at folly today on mud minnows. Might want to try there soon.
