I have heard that some changes are in the makes for beach goers regarding parking that may or may not effect some of you that fish IOP. IOP will limit parking for beach goers from May 15-Sept 15 for non residents. They are reducing parking for non residents. This information came from a Post and Courier article, I hope it’s accurate. It"s already hell to park there any way, guess it pays to be rich. The property owners are tired of the trash, torn up yards and are concerned about emergency response times with the traffic congestion. I thought their was a law that stated that all beaches were available to the public. I suppose they are thinning the herd. I guess I can understand some of the frustrations of the property owners, but it does seem like that if beaches are meant to be enjoyed by “all” that they would offer a way for them to do so. Like I said, I certainly would not tolerate anyone throwing their trash in my front yard, blocking my drive way, pissing, or spinning out on my grass ,and can see how they would get aggravated by all this, can they not come up with a better solution. This reminds me of an episode of Anthony Bourdain in Jamaica where all the beautiful beaches were being purchased by the wealthy corporations that were putting private resorts on them and the not so wealthy locals no longer have access to the beaches. Non resident parking will be limited to 21-57 Ave and along first block off Ocean Blvd from 3rd to 9th ave. All other parking will be for residents who have a pass. The fine 50.00. The pay parking will be raising their rates. The good news is that during peak red fish season, from what the article states the restrictions will not be in place.
Lucky for me I know a guy .
I guess one bite is better than no bites, at least I didn’t get skunked, thank you Mr. Parker.
Interesting… Hopefully doesn’t affect me very much. I don’t usually park in yards, so I guess it just depends what they do to limit the parking.
Well this sucks however you did read it in the post and courier… Hopefully it was only a proposal.

That does suck but I can definitely see both sides. It’s crazy seeing some peoples complete disregard for other people’s property come beach season- parking in people’s yards, leaving trash around, blocking driveways… Hopefully something is worked out that works for everyone

I think I remember my Mom saying something about that last year, she used to live in the Hamlin Plantation…something about having an IOP sticker or something to that affect. So the IOP will generate additional funds from resident tags/stickers and yet not increasing the parking area other than at the park? That is in the middle of the beach season down here is it not?
I understand the homeowners view, I would be pissed too but there are a lot of homeowners that have either put up a fence, posts or shrubs 2 or 3 feet from the road making it impossible to be 4 feet from the road. just my 2 cents.
