Is It Just Me?

Or has actually tackling the ball carrier become a thing of the past? Not talking about any specific game as I watched a lot of football this bowl season. It seems to me that “tacklers” no longer go after the ball carrier arms out to wrap them up and bring them down. It seems like most of them “launch” themselves, arms tucked in, at the ball carrier and often bounce/deflect off of them. This drives me nuts. I saw so many plays this year where the ball carrier should have been stopped or at least held up until other defenders could come help but wasn’t because of sloppy tackling. I think that is why this targeting thing has become such a big deal.

Sorry, just had to rant.

I agree DF. Drives me crazy. It happens in every games, many times a game.

Trying to knock the ball loose or strip it out seems to be more of a priority now. There were some pretty big and clean hits in both of SC’s and CU’s bowl games.

I think a lot of it has to do with all the new rules in place that are suppose to protect the ball carrier and the players are paranoid about that

I don’t think so. I think it’s just a “Look at me! Look how hard I can hit!” mentality.

Truth is, if you wrap up, you will not get called for targeting.

That is a very good point. It ends up costing them if its a good player because he will just bounce off and keep going
