I didn’t watch it but heard he played really well.
I think he did do well, particularly his 8/9 pass completion. The hail mary, by design, is a luck pass and he got the unlikely TD on that. But even without it he had better stats than manziel. He’s still not considered by most in the real QB discussion, more like a 3 way w/ hoyer, manziel and now grossman? Even if he doesn’t make the regular season, he made king lord d-bag, johnny manziel, look bad in a game, and that is something to be proud of.
I only watched when he was in(had a friend text me if he played). Considering he is not getting many snaps, zero in the 2 min offense. I think he did about as good as he could. I would like to see him get more meaningful minutes to see how he does.
Fish, you have your people screen games and alert you only when there is something worthy of your viewing? I like that…

Nope, his name isn’t Manziel and they didn’t sign him for 50 million. He’ll ride the pine into obscurity or be waived. Some other team will hopefully see his upside and give him a shot.
Heard talk on the Browns Skins game yesterday on Sirius College Sports, not once was his name mentioned in the starter role for the Browns, Manziel and Hoyer were though. Shame since Shaw’s performance was 10X greater than either. Be nice to see what he could do with a bunch of 1st teamers.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Since the lowcountry appears to be the a mini Ohio, I have lots of friends that are Browns fan. Many of the have question whether Shaw should be given a shot with the 1st teamers.
I do not know much about the NFL, but I think JM did not get 50 million. Isn’t there a rookie minimum?
According to today’s State paper, the Cleveland Plain dealer’s poll showed 70.25 percent of the fans thought Shaw should start. I agree with Salty’s logic, but he certainly seems to be the sentimental favorite, especially in Manziel keeps stepping in it.

Don’t know how much Manziel got, it was a figurative number. Guarantee you Shaw isn’t sniffing 1/10th of Manziel’s take home pay. Lot of money riding on JF to produce for a perennial bottom feeder.

I agree the browns have way to much invested in JM for him not to play(jerseys, billboards, ads…).
browns announced hoyer as starting qb and manziel as back up.
I know they would like to save face on that draft pick and investment, but you can believe the folks in Ohio will be calling for fresh meat lf Hoyer or Manziel don’t win quickly. The money is spent either way.
A whopping 70.25 percent of the votes in a Cleveland Plain Dealer fan poll say that Connor Shaw should be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns.

I like shaw for what he does well - finds a crease on third down to run through and keep the chains moving. Helped the cocks win a bunch of games that way!
However, the reality of NFL is EVERYONE can run like a deer so those creases close in a second. Unfortunately he does not make decisions fast enough to get rid of the ball in less than 3 seconds - which is what the NFL is all about.
Manziel will probably turn out to be a big waste of money a a 1st round pick. Shaw will likely have a several year career as a backup. There are worse ways to make $200,000+ per year!

There’s an echo in this thread
As far as the 70+% fans in Cleveland voting for Shaw to be the starter - remember those are the same fans that ran Bill Billichek OUT of town because they thought he was a dumb head coach. He wore a plastic baggie/jacket at practices and mumbled during his press conferences.
I think he did OK in his next head coaching job with the Patriots Just saying.
As far as many football fans go - THE favorite player on most teams is [1] the back-up quarterback, [2] the freshman recruit and [3] the tight-end the QB never throws to.
Fans are mostly the same around the country - they want to see what isn’t on the field. Remember when Jordan retired the FIRST time - the Chicago newspapers were famous for saying they did not need MJ in order to win another championship. Hmmm - how did that work out.
Just my opinions.
