Is there a point to try and fish from the surf?

Hey everyone,
My girlfriend and I are coming up to Isle of Palms and Charleston for a couple of days and we were wondering if it is worth it to attempt to fish from the pier or if it is too cold.

Is there anything anyone is still catching from the surf or is there a place we can fish in a marsh area from land and have better luck?

Good numbers of big Whiting and Black Drum still around. Fish troughs and cuts with fresh shrimp on the bottom. The Atlantic Rays are starting to spawn, fun to catch when nothing else is biting.
