It doesn't get any better.....

We left Wappoo at daybreak, and were greeted with Lake Atlantic. Went to the 60 and had a hard time getting enough bait, ended up with 2 dozen live cigars. wqe stopped by the garden to find 3 botes working an area I wanted to fish…kept going. Stopped in 170’ and had an epic* day. We had a few strange fish show in the mix, Blue Parrot, Scorpionfish, 5-LRFs, 3 Creole fish, 38" Cobia and the rest of the usual suspects.

a “bunch” of Scamps
one 22" chicken
a “bunch” of 3-5 lb overfished footballs
couple of BIG red porgies
a 14lb Red Grouper
a lot of BIG triggers
2 giant (7 or 8 lbs) Queen triggers

No black seabass or Gaggs

Live Cigars and cut bait

Water temp in 170’- 70.3

This was my first long run on a 23’ Sailfish hull. I was very impressed with the way it ran and fished. My only complaint was that the fish boxes were not big enough.

Waiting to get the photo disc back from CVS.

“you’re gonna need a bigger boat”

I don’t think any boats fish boxes are big enough when you are on the boat.

When do you want to see if yours are big enough???

Very soon, I’m in Fl right now after We. I’m done working until 2008 & I have no Grouper in the freezer.

Thumbs up! We were hoping for some scamps, didnt have live bait.

I was unable to roll wid 'em Sunday, so I’m sitting at home pouting and around 9am the phone rang and it was high’n’dry aboard their bote. I got nervous thinking something was wrong, but all was well. They were at the 60 and had phone service! Couldn’t believe it! Reception was as clear as a bell.

“can you hear me now?”

Nut3, thought they were in your ride, or did you sell it?

He still has it. He could not get a hall pass that day. I told him he missed out. CP, call me for more info.

Do you anchor in 170’? Thats a lot of anchor line to pull up…

Try pulling it in when you set up in 300+. Anyways it’s not hard when the poly ball does all the work.

Would have loved to have been there, but I couldn’t get out that day… Honeydo list was too long. I felt like I was on the other side of the fence watching a sandlot football game.

we have an 18 lb Mighty mite, 10’ of 3/8’s chain, 2 sections of 300’ x 1/2" triple braid nylon. The polyball is a must for bringing up the hook. You will go buy one as soon as you see one used.

That’s what I used until I bought a ball.

i own a pollyball and plenty of anchor line, but how does the ball help you pull the anchor up in deep water? im sure the answer is stupid simple, but ive never been anchored bottom fishing past the ledge and i think this info could be useful in the future, sorry to be annoying

Short version, the ball floats the anchor by playing a part in pulling it to the surface and also holding it on the surface while you pull the line in.

Longer version,

Take note of your anchor course, i.e. compass reading towards your anchor when your boat has been sitting on anchor. Clip a steel ring over your anchor line with the poly ball attached so it with a short piece of line. Slowly drive boat to either side of poly ball that is attached onto the anchor line via the large steel ring that will easily slip over all your anchor line any any chain but is small enough for your anchor itself not to slip thru the ring. You should be driving the boat so that the anchor ball keeps the line held up to the side of your boat so that the anchor line doesn’t get into your prop. Some people run the line thru/around the rear cleat instead of it pulling on the bow cleat and against the side of the boat hull. Be careful that the line does not flip up over the side of the boat and knock rods and other gear out of the boat- not to mention harm anyone standing on that side of the boat. Your goal is to drive the boat in a heading 180 degrees from, i.e.: directly opposite, your anchor course. This is important so that the chain and anchor are pulled opposite of how they were hooked so the anchor is not bent.

The next part is where the anchor ball does the work, and you must have chain on the end of your line for it to work. Continue driving away from the anchor ball while keeping a

You can get this AWESOME setup at Boaters World for around $40-50, if I remember correctly. Sellsfish taught me this, after our first trip.

I’m sure this has happened to several people…

while achored, had a school of jellyfish swim by the rope, and they got their tentacles wrapped around the rope. When we pulled the hook, the rope hit my legs and arms, and i got indirectly stung by them fukkers!

Been living here since 1981, and that was the first time I have been “stung!”

Nobody pissed on me, either…I sat there and took it like a man.

One thing I do differntly than Phin is get the anchor to the surface before putting the ball on the rope. Works both ways. Same concept move to the side of the anchor line and push boat up when the line comes tight to the side of the boat take a short piece of rope(monkey line) cleat end off then toss around anchor line then dog it off. This allows you security with your rope, out boards still a chance of it getting in the motor if you F up, on my boat if i do this im clear of the running gear. Ropes tight and boat moving forward keeping anchor on surface same poly ball set up as Phins clip on and it slides down rope, never going underwater to have all the extra preasure and weight. They do pop sometimes, I anchored snowie fishing one day and popped every polyball on the boat ■■■■■ happens.
