Jasons Lake

Thinking about taking my son over to Jason’s lake to fish in the next couple weeks. Is the lake fresh water or salt?

If its salt, any suggestions on what to use for bait to get a few fish to tug on his line?

Thanks

I would get him a spincast (pushbutton reel) rod and reel combo and some plastics he can cast and retrieve. Go to Haddrell’s Point (they advertise here) and they will fix you up. Your son will cast and wind and not want to leave. I’ve found this holds their interest much better than bait. You’ll see what I call the “diving board effect”: “Dad, Dad, watch how far this one goes.” Bob

Thanks, I’ll give it a try

I have fished the lake many times with my children(7 and 12), and they had no problem catching fish on artificials and dead shrimp. I have noticed recently the fish have gotten a little more educated and tougher to catch. Try to schedule a trip around high tide as they get much more active when water boils in through the pipe. Expect to catch some really nice flounder and probably some reds.

We were there last week near the pipe (right off the causeway) using all plastics and caught a mess of flounder right there. Just cast and drag along the bottom and wait for the hit! Lots of fun for the kids (and me, too!)
You can see the pipe behind us in the pic below

I was there on Saturday the 28th and the flounder are plentiful. Grandson (5 yrs old) caught a doormat on his Spiderman Zebco. Gulp Alive Swimming Mullet (charteuse) was the ticket. We watched a party of four catch flounders one after the another. They also reported that they got there as the tide was coming in and caught three reds. Lots of fun but the wind was howling. Four vehicles crossed the dike in the three hours we were there.

Thanks for the comments.

Looking forward to taking him over there. I’m sure he will have a great time.

It there usually a crowd at the pond?
