Jenkins creek?

Does anybody fish much or at all in Jenkins creek behind Dawta? I’ve been fishing there the last couple summers. My family has a place on the creek. My biggest question is on the redfish. I can’t seem to find many. I’ve caught my share of trout but the redfish are rare. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks…

I fish there and the little creeks that spur off, and have not had much luck catching anything. I live over on Polawana, across from Dataw.

I flounder gig there pretty regularly. I can assure you there are many redfish there. It’s a big area. Can I ask how you are fishing for them?

Mostly fishing popping corks with shrimp or mud minnows. I will switch off between that and some sort of gulp bait on a jig head. I’m a striper fisherman. Never been much of a largemouth guy. I enjoy fishing with bait. I would prefer to anchor and fish. I think my biggest problem is where I’m fishing. Points, deeper holes and oyster beds. Mostly from the golf course to the main river. The big flats behind the golf course were my next try but the weather kind of crapped on me for this trip.

Where have you been gigging on Jenkins.

Dennis, try fishing the holes from low tide up with cut mullet and see how that works!

I grew up on Jenkins and have gigged from Morgan to Polawana for the past 35+ years. The flats behind the golf course is a good area but be careful not to get stuck in there at dead low as you can paint yourself into a corner.

Thanks guys… Keith, when you say deeper holes what are we talking about? 5-10 feet or deeper? It’s all relative to where your fishing. Jenkins creek itself has some 30’ water or better. This weekend was a bust no matter where I was gonna fish. I’ll be back last of May though!

I know about getting stuck. I got stuck for 7 hours last year where the last creek enters Jenkins before getting to the sound.

I would love some lessons or go with you sometimes on gigging.

The creeks across Morgan from where Jenkins comes out can be good. Also creek behind Morgan Island and on around the corner up the Coosaw.

I have caught trout and reds on Parrot creek opposite of Monkey island and also on the Coosaw river on the north side where creeks enter, but hardly anything in Jenkins creek or the other two creeks coming of the same side of the sound as Jenkins or anything off the little creeks off of Jenkins.

Strange but I have caught a few off of my dock on a tidal creek that comes off of Jenkins.
