I asked about redfish hunting which apparently started a debate on whether Jet Ski fishing should be banned from the waterways and violators should be shot, twice if there from NY, lol.
I figured the debate should be here so all can chime in without it becoming a personal attack…
So…
Your thoughts, are jet skis a valid vessel or no?
This is a fairly provocative post isn’t it…Valid meaning “legal”, or the actions of most jet ski operators being “acceptable” to other fishermen and boaters? In my opinion it’s the quick throttle and maneuverability that gives most jet ski riders a false sense of the crafts true limits around other boats. I’ve never had another boat of any sort try to jump my wake only a few feet off my transom, nor try to cut me off while ignoring all regulations set forth by the DNR on South Carolina waters!! I had my left foot cut nearly off in a jet ski accident, by being blind sided by another skier. Both ski’s sank and luckily no one was killed. So I guess you could say my opinion is calloused, but I bet others might agree.

…Politicians aren’t the “Oldest Profession”, but the results are still the same!!!
I agree that alot of casual skiers, just like casual boaters can be a nuisance and downright dangerous, but is that indicitive of the person or the craft?
Should Cris Craft be singled out because one of those flew by my jet dock in a no wake zone and threw me down, and gashed my leg open?
SCDNR estimates that as many as 28% of the people driving boats at any given time are DWI…
I think its the driver, not the craft thats to blame.
Oh, and in the NY region I was from, the statistics are 9%…
hmmmm

See my other post but, to expound on it. My problem with them is like what Mixed Nutz said. The majority of the operators completely disregard the rules of boating/navigation. They are not exempt, they are SUPPOSED to follow the same rules/laws all other boaters do. I could relate multiple instances (and I bet others could as well) where jet skiers have been totally oblivious to everyone else around them, as if they were the only person on the water. In a perfect world they would be limited to operating anywhere that I am not. Not really sure what you mean by “valid”.
Check out Jet ski Brian.com yall might change your perception on Jet ski fishing. Look at the reports he post. He is a Va, fisherman that does everything from his ski.
Red X Anglers, If you dont know about us ask.
Unfortunately Jet Ski Brian is the exception rather than the rule. He is both a gentleman and a sportsman. I wish I’d had a rod and reel with me a few weeks ago in the Bahamas when we were taking a ski tour… we cruised up on a nice school of bones on one flat.
The key is the operator, not the craft.

I had two different jerks (for lack of better words) in contenders act like fools. (One jumped my wake about 15 yards from my transom and another blew through the no wake zone in shem creek. So should we add Contender owners to the list?? No, just dumb!@ses behind the wheel.
If you can operate your motorized toys without being a menace to society I say go for it!
How about the people with no disregard to the “main waterway” when pulling tubes? 9 times out of ten they are being pulled by boats and are “oblivious” to others around. It takes common sense out on the water and on the road. We all make mistakes but some just don’t give a dang and they aren’t all jet ski owners.
LoL,
I had the NY record for large mouth bass when I was younger, Took 2nd place in the Hawaiian Intl Billfish Tourney a couple years ago.
basically, I can fish…
The HIBT had people from all over the world.
Not one single person ever brought up the fact of where you were from originally. Everyone shared info and good times.
Fellow fisherman were just that, fellow fisherman.
Here if you ask someone where the fish are running they treat it like you just smacked their wife.
It’s pretty sad if you ask me//

I mean saying I’m from NY tags me as an undesirable Yankee?
I’m not a person I’m a geographical region?
If I’m rigged for fishing it really matters what craft I’m on?
I mean really?
I’m just sayin ././.

Wow, ok.
Not boasting, no reference anywhere to shulda coulda OR woulda.
Merely stating fact to qualify that I have seen a few fish in my day.

Boasting about your coulda’s, woulda’s, and shoulda’s, on two different threads about different topics lends nothing to your argument now does it Mr. Knowitall?

The difference between a Yankee and A (() YANKEE. Yankee visits and goes back home but the (() yankee stays (and most of the time complains about how horrible it is here in the south).

ok, more friendly kidding, I get it…
Should I return fire?
Nah, lol.

The reason most people on here, and in the South are somewhat hard on Yanks is their (yes this is a generalization, but a true one in my experience) obnoxious, attention whoring, one-upping, “I’m ALWAYS right” attitudes. It irritates us Southerners to no end, and is often the root of our hostility, when a Yank talks about how the North is better; be it the shopping, weather, politics (bull****…), projected % of people boating while DWI, fishing, etc. We in the South (yes, another generalization) don’t care how good it was up North and think that if you feel it’s so much better, you should just head back up there and continue to suck.
I think my boat says it best…

If you were concerned about making a good impression and friends, perhaps the boasting on your fishing achievements, highlighting the fact you’re from NY and feeding the stereotype (of both Yanks and jetskiers alike) is not the way to do so.
Carry on.

LoL,
This is a fun debate, so lets not get too serious…
From what I see, there seems to be a lot of tunnel vision round these parts. Is reading comprehension an issue?
Where in my original post did I brag, one up etc?
It stated I was frustrated with sharks, what I was doing and could anyone help.
“1 more baby shark and We’re gunna SCREAM!”
No bragging
No Mention of shopping, weather or politics.
No Mention that I don’t like the south.
No Mention the north is better.
What post were you reading???
It actually states I’m apparently clueless about red fishing and need help.
The clueless on red fishing was immediately taken as clueless at fishing in general.
It then turned into a Jet Ski issue, so I seperated the topics attempting to get back to the fishing issue.
THAT didn’t work, lol.
If you look at the original post up top, you’ll see it SPECIFICALLY states that we can debate the Jet Ski fishing without making it a personal attack.
IMMEDIATELY, the Jet ski fishing debate has turned into a forum for Yankee bashing.
There’s apparently a lot of people here that need to vent.
Maybe we should start a Why I hate Yankees topic?
I say the war ended generations ago…
lets move on maybe?
Rap nice wording!
Yankee, I sure hope you don’t get on the water soon with your rod holder covered jet ski. Might be bad news. haha Man give up. This is entertaining for me at work today though.
—Note there is a fella on here who is from up north (New Jersey I think) and he was talking the other day about fishing, giving reports, etc. I would be more than happy to go fishing with him. He didnt possess those terrible qualities stated and displayed above.
