Hey guys. Was planning on coming back down to Charleston on 4th of July. Was planning on hitting the jetties if the weather is permitting. So what time do you guys head out and return from jetties. Is it a certain tide you tend to stick to while fishing the jetties. Also what side of the jetties is the safest.
whenever you want till whenever… really depends on the conditions…
I prefer the outside of both, but plenty of people fish the inside too. Just gotta be careful.
4th of july and the Jetties… If you like company enjoy yourself!
lets see the 4th hum boat ramp is the first headache then the ride to the jetties (lol) then the parking lot. oh wait then you have to do it all again. I think im going to fish my back yard.

Appreciate the info guys. If the weather permit I think I will gas up and make that trip.Just wanna get some helpful info about jetties before making the trip.
This would be a good time to start the “boat ramp etiquette” series.
Get all your equipment IN THE BOAT AND READY B E. F. O. R E. you get to the ramp, put boat in water QUICKLY, and move out.
On return, EXIT WATER QUICKLY, and move out, ALL THE WAY to the parking
AREA.
Now, sinceyou like crowds, fishing the jetties in a small boat can be challenging. First the anchoring, you better take several anchors, and a lot of rope, you likely will lose one or more.
Good idea to take cement blocks, tire rims, pieces of junk metal, etc. for anchors, and cheap nylon rope will do fine, use gloves though.
Low tide is the worst problem anchoring, and with weight. You will need 15-25 lb anchors, and 5-8 ounces lead to keep your rig on the bottom.
Most ALL fishing is better EARLY AM, & LATE PM, plus boat ramp will be SOME better at those hours, too.
Patience, and enjoy the fun and crowd. Plan all day, if you have children, DON’T put them through the hassle, or yourself, either.

Thanks Mac daddy… As far as anchors job threw out alot of scrap material and alot of them were galvanized supports which actually made like anchors . They weigh about 10lbs or so. Also they threw away some flanges that could be made into backup anchors. So yeah im backup anchored down. I also have two 5 gallon buckets with about 500’ each of 1/2" size rope inside I haven’t even used yet that came with my boat. Yeah definitely gotta play it safe out there also.

Am I just special? I have never had any problem anchoring at the jetties in any tide and all current and wind conditions. I’ve been anchoring out there for years with many different boats. Just have a properly matched anchor to your boat and don’t throw it into the rocks. There is no need to anchor within 30’ of the rocks. I have never lost an anchor at the jetties. My personal preference is a Lewmar Claw anchor with 6’ of chain. Wheels and cinder blocks won’t do a (**() thing on flat sandy bottom.

X2. I think you meant to say 6’ of chain though? Lewmar or Bruce claw rigged to trip. Cinder blocks? Last time I used one of those was in a jon boat in a farm pond
That being said, I avoid Memorial Day, Independence Day (lets call it what it is) and Labor Day on the water, like the plague!

I think you will be fine if you leave at dawn, and return at midday. You will avoid the crowds, get a parking space, and be off the water before the jrunks return

I fixed it. Brain and fingers weren’t on the same page.
Rigging it to trip is the key. Bring spare zip ties and you’ll be set.

For those who don’t know, this is what we are talking about…
Dang concrete blocks and scrap iron:question: Really
That’s some pro advice right there

Thanks for posting that Larry. Some people don’t mind leading you astray.

OK guys, I ASSUMED he has NEVER been to the jetties. IF NOT, we all know the tendency to get CLOSE to the rocks, most of us DID THAT the first trip to the jetties.
STOP treating first timers like they know, or will listen. After all guys, he IS going ti the jetties on the 4th, after being told NO NO.
So, you PROS realize who or what you are dealing with, and his reply shows us he liked my suggestions, but you jerks just had to act professional.
PROS do not go in the ocean on the 4th, unless they are paid to do so.
Please engage brain BEFORE engaging keyboard, I was not giving pro advice, for obvious reasons, neither do I consider myself a pro, just being helpful.
I STILL lose anchors at the grillage, so do many others, this guy could EASILY end up at the grillage, regardless, I would easily venture to say he WILL go inside of 30’ of the
jetties. 30-40 lb. Blocks or rims DO INDEED hold in sand in ANY condition short of a hurricane, sorry.

That’s because he didn’t know any better and thought that you did. I am a professional. Appreciate being called a jerk too. You should stick with your preaching. But for a preacher, you sure call a lot of names and make some ridiculous assumptions about people.

Right, but God invented anchors about 5,000 years ago and none of them were shaped like a block or wheel Keep talking.

I’m STILL a human being, with a human side, making fun of my suggestions WAS acting like a jerk, so call it a fact ,NOT an assumption, that’s how I see it, if you disagree, that’s fine. Still does NOT make you, Larry, correct in your analysis, just your opinion. I believe your opinion was proven wrong by the circumstances involved here, and I believe your opinion of my behaviour is also wrong.
Calling names is a conversational subjective topic, if they ARE accurate, they are not name calling, but fact. Inaccurate, they ARE name calling accusations, also, assumptions are NOT assumptions if correct. If you prove either to be inaccurate, I WILL recant, and apologize. “Easier to apologize than ask permission”, also easier than taking a lot of unnecessary garbage, that was NOT sent my way softly.
I did not correct your professionalism, I corected using it to an individual who, apparently, would NOT listen to professional advice.

Thanks Larry for posting that pic.Never seen that Lewmar Anchor before.
If you ever actually met Larry, “jerk” would be one of the last things you called him. Jeez.
