Ran out to the Edisto 60 on a hot day. Left from Live Oak (without incident) as clean up at the marina was ongoing from the Billfish tournament.
Had plenty of ice, and was expecting a lot of fish, but…
On my first cast a curious pair of Spades came to the surface, pecked at my squid and turned tail. We didnt see them again for a couple of hours, and even then, they wouldnt bite either shrimp or squid.
We brought a mess of Ringtails into the boat, and some Pinfish and a couple of very undersized BSBs., but no Spades, no Vermillion.
Not every trip will be a winner, but it was great to get out on the ocean and forget everything else for a few hours.
Heading back today to try again.

Yep, I’d still take a day like that over sitting in an office.
To finish out the thread; took a friend that just got his Capt. license out to the 60.
Light chop on the way out, with the same at my “secret spot” near the reef buoy. Interesting note: no other boats at the 60 (or the 40).
We saw Spades at the surface, but after 15 minutes my friend, the Capt. reported that he was seasick. (Seems he just fishes inshore).
Being the gracious host, I told him we would head back, and we left with only one Ringtail to our credit.
By the time we got 2 miles from shore the water had smoothed out, and I asked him if he was ok to fish my usual spot off the beach. He was, and we spent an hour catching Grunts, BSBs and a Flounder that I am having for dinner.
All in all an unusual day, but any day bringing a Flounder home for dinner rates a 10 in my book.
