July 26 Otter Island

Spent the better part of four hours fishing a couple of spots that the Top Spot folks refer to as “Tarpon Bank” which is a sand bar about 2 miles off Otter/Pine Islands. We floated live baits on balloons and popping corks but didnt catch any Tarpon. Still, we kept busy. The tally for the day was:

50+ Croakers
5 Grunts
12 Whiting
2 Bonnetheads
2 Sharpnose
10 baby Sharpnose
10 Weakfish
and 1 Spanish that made it to the boat but jumped off.

I hooked a Sharpnose on very light tackle and he broke the rod in two. I still managed to bring him into the boat. Next will be sending the rod manufacturer a complaint letter.

Water temp was 84
That’s a report

What side of the bar were you fishing, and what tide?

Did you see any fish rolling?

Were there any pogies in the waves breaking over/around the bar?

That’s a good spot when all the stars align, lol

Thanks for the report and pics

we were fishing the south side of the bar at/near high tide;
fish were rolling and we floated live bait right through them;
Didnt see any fish breaking over the top of the bar.

Awesome report Dave!

When you say fish were rolling
Are you talking about tarpon or bait?

He means tarpon
