Weatherman said 1 x 9 with 2 mph winds, so planned a trip to the 60. Conditions were perfect. Spadefish were popping, a little thinner than a few weeks back, but no bites. We chased them to a few spots, waited on them, coaxed them with jelly balls and squid heads, but nothing. The only species brought into the boat were 20 Ringtails, and a Remora, which we initially ID’d as a short Cobia. Floated live and cut bait on balloons without success.
Stopped at the 40 on the way back and found the Pinfish. While reeling one in, a Barracuda took a run, and got my small 2/0 Owner hook stuck in the corner of his mouth. At first we thought it was a King Mackerel, but after seeing those pre historic teeth, we instinctively knew.
When we got him in the boat and saw where the hook had lodged, missing those teeth, we shook our heads in amazement.
Surprisingly little boat traffic for such a perfect day.
Back at it soon hopefully.
