Hello Everyone,
Been awhile but figured I would share a little of our day trying to get offshore to the ledge.
Left the Sands a little after daylight to meet a sloppy sea to say the least. 4’s and 5’s but Capt Cudaman Chris smoothed it out in the Cat boat as well as possible (would not even have tried in my ride). He decided to cut the ride short at the Betsy and I must say, Thanks Bud!
We arrive on scene and I hand my trusty jigging rod to my son that has the luckiest jig on that I have ever fished with. Thanks Courtland! I have caught a Red Snapper over 20lbs that sucked releasing, Amberjack over 30, Gags, Sea Bass ect. on that same jig.
Anyway, when I hand my son the rod I tell him, there are Cobia here. He says, “yeah dad” and after his 2nd drop he is hooked up. Dang it if it isn’t a Cobia. Chris makes a good stick and in the box it goes. Not 10 minutes later he has another hooked up and in the box it goes. Wow, I am stoked! Proud Papa as I don’t get to fish with him much due to working and school and girls.
Chris did not fish much as he was busy at the helm keeping us over structure. The rest of the crowd topped it off with nice Sea Bass and assorted other bottom dwellers that made for great tablefare.
That pretty much sums it up…well, maybe not…I got seasick for the first time!!! Felt fine going out but when we got there and I sat down in boat looking down in my tackle bag for some line and hooks to make some chicken rigs it messed me up. I provided a small Chum Slick but it was just bottled water and did not help the fishing:dizzy_face:. I have been catching hell from my buddy that went with us about turning GREEN! LOL.
We were back in the sound around 11:30 so pretty good for a short day.
Chris, Thanks as always and can’t wait to get back out there!
