It looks like we will have a decent window for fishing early on Saturday. Might be a good day to break out the topwater lures.
Newby here. Been wanting to do this since I found the site. Please tell me What test line I should have. Also, since it is my 1st time what bait, artificial and / or live and rig should I bring?(I gotta go minimalist) Thanks for the advice.
If minimalist means a single rod I would go with a 300 or 400 level reel spooled with 12-15lb test. For this time of year, you cant go wrong with a popping cork and live mud minnows or shrimp for bait. If you have an extra rod you might want to try a topwater lure. It’s going to be overcast on Saturday. A 1/8 oz jig head with a trout trick/ Zman Paddler/ grub or other plastic is always a good choice as well. A quartered blue crab on a carolina rig is another good option. I beef up the reel and use 20lb line with a flouro leader on the bottom rigs. I was there on the 4th and saw a very large bonnethead. Couldnt get him to waste his time on minnows though. I hope that helps some. You can always ask the guys at Haddrell’s. They are always willing to help.
Better to be safe than sorry! I appreciate the update!
BTW, anyone know of a good kayak repair shop around here? Someone ran into the back of my kayak last night and busted the rudder all up. It is an Ocean Kayak Torque. I need to get an estimate for insurance, etc as well as see if the hull is damaged.
