June 10 report: Dirty water and Spanish at the 60

Left the Marina at 6:30 and stopped at the 40 to see if we could find any Cannonballs to entice the Spades. Fished for 30 minutes and caught the usual June suspects; Grunts and Atlantic Sharpnose sharks. No other boats out there. Didn’t see any jellies, so sped off to the 60 to find a large school of Spanish Mackerel hitting the surface, but no Spades.

One boat was surrounded by a school 25 yards wide. They were casting into them, but I didn’t see any biting. We threw out a popping cork with a piece of previously frozen Cannonball and a Shrimp, and let it drift but didn’t get any takers.

There were plenty of Ringtail Porgies and undersized BSBs for the taking, but not much else.

We headed back inshore to fish along the beach for Whiting, and noticed the water was fairly dirty with reeds and marsh grass. Caught a few Croakers, but no Whiting. We then hit the green channel buoy and caught a few Weakfish and Sharpnose Sharks.

Water temp at both the 40 and 60 was 72 degrees.

Good water temp, will get much warmer soon. 40 and 60 means you were at Edisto right?

Good report, thanks.
