Made a long overdue trip to the 60 to try out a new trolling motor that a friend helped me install (actually, that he installed; I just paid for it ).

Conditions were ideal, and we were at our secret spot in no time.

We used cut squid to catch a dozen Spadefish. They seemed to like the head and tentacles best. Highlight of the day was my pal floating cut Ringtail on a popping cork and hooking a 42 inch Cobia. I also used extreme light tackle for the Spadefish, which I highly reccommend.

Good stuff, thanks for the pictures.

I’m surprised no one has tried to tell you about those Cobia yet, some of the best table fare around,

Those spades eat pretty good too

glad you got back out

Great report!

I think I said it before, but don’t freeze the spade, they get really fishy. They’re really good grilled or fried fresh though

As for cobia, oh man… no more needs to be said… you’ll know

Frozen Spadefish are great in a red curry with lemongrass and basil. I don’t hesitate to freeze them. Try it, you might like it.

That sounds great!

I never made any curried fish till earlier this year and the family loved it. We used red and green curry with coconut milk to make a stew. I’ll definitely try the herb addition- thanks!
