Let me test one on the back of my Mako, and I will tell you whether it will hold up or not.

Haha I haven’t even seen this motor. All I know is that my yamaha rep swears up and down these new four strokes are going to put the mercs to shame. Yamaha is like the jefferson’s “They moving on up”

when you say “merc” are you meaning verado of optimax???
the test was cool, but most propaganda stuff does have a tendancy to make the product look good. look at teh ETEC videos.
Dont get me wrong, Yamaha builds an awesome motor, but I dont see an f225 out performing a 225 optimax, and I highly doubt an f250 will run with a 250XS optimax, but who knows, those yamaha folks do build some pretty impressive stuff. It will be interesting to run one on the back of a hewes redfisher or a ranger cayman

My guess is that they are again following in the footsteps of Honda. http://corporate.honda.com/press/article.aspx?id=4559
The Yamaha rep says it will blister a 250 Pro XS…seems they have tested it already on a ranger bass boat and stratos 201

If it outperforms a Merc, why don’t they show that in the promo instead of comparing it against your own product. I’m with Chris V; I wan’t to see it paired up with a Pro XS. And not just one that the boat plant installed; one that the Mercury factory has had a chance to set up. That is because you know the Yamaha guys pulled the hottest engine off the production line that was still within the +/- 3 to 5% production HP variance and then played with mounting height and props to get the very best performance.
The only way a comparison can be done fairly is to give the same hull to each respective engine manufacturer and let them rig to their pleasure. I’ve done this type of thing in the diesel inboard world and it make all the difference in the world on who does the set up.

I don’t get it. They didn’t announce anything?
Is this a preview of the new motors?? Looks as they went white now … Oh this pic is from the new Itrepid 400CC image gallery. Just wondering because I have never seen a white yam unless it’s a custom job.
those are 350’s painted white. It will be interesting to see how these new lightweight 4 strokes turn out. So far, no one has a 4 stroke that has the same power to weight as the high performance 2 strokes. Keep an eye on the Bass Boat magazines, they have a pretty good history of doing apples to apples comparison of motors. They don’t seem to care if they hurt any of the manufacture feelings.
My yamaha rep was actually at the test facility when they did this test on the skeeter bass boats. They can not do a test with a ranger or stratos because they are currently in bankruptcy and all their assets are being sold off. The only other bass boat comparable to the skeeter are triton and yamaha can not get a hold of one because they are owned by Brunswick along with nitro. The new motors will only be in short shafts right now so you will not see these on any offshore boats for awhile.
Once they actually release the motors to the public then I believe you will see tests done but the numbers show they will run with the merc pro XS 250.

we heard they will be seen on the bass boats first. I sell skeeters and they are suppose to be building a new boat to go with these motors for next year sometime. I imagine we will see them by summer and maybe have a display at the winter boat show. I am really interested though.

V6, 300HP fourstroke (same as F250) with new gearcase and valve timing…sweet!!!
Grady-White 232 w/F250
I’d rather see a lightweight 175-225 4 stroke V6 than a low volume 300. They’d sell a lot more light 200’s than they would a low volume 300, just not that many applications, even in the bass boat market, there are only a handfull of boats rated for 300. If thats all they have, then its going to be a dissapointment
That’s what I was wondering. Is Skeeter going to build a bass boat for these 300’s to be mounted on?
