Just a word of advice for all you new - or even veteran shark fisherman. Make sure you always wear your life vest and practice your kayak re-entry techniques before you paddle a bait.
Yesterday as I arrived to the beach I witnessed someone floating down with the fast moving current, he was on top of his kayak that had flipped over, and a hook had caught in his shorts. He couldn’t get back on his kayak and eventually paddled with his hands back to shore a few hundred yards later.
About an hour later the same person tried to take another bait out, flipped again and was once again unable to get back in the kayak. Luckily he was wearing a life jacket, and I paddled out to give him a hand, and help him get back in his kayak and safely to shore.
When I bought my kayak I took it to a deep freshwater pond/lake and practiced flipping and re-entry multiple times until I felt comfortable that I could do it on the ocean.
Please be careful, especially if you aren’t yet comfortable in a kayak! - Dan
