Just seen this, guys mind if I join? Have a friend that might be interested too. Getting our kayaks soon so probably wonāt be in the surf too much this year, but Iām sure Iāve seen plenty of you in passing over the last couple years.

Nuzzy,
Yes, you are welcome to come. Should be a fun meet and greet.
Hey fellas, great thing weāve got going here to have so many willing to share. Beats the heck out the old days when folks were tight lipped, both in the mouth and otherwise.
I fished the surf a lot last year after finding a school of reds that would frequent a large tide pool and the bar guarding it. Would love to chat with some of you guys about the great stuff weāve got in the surf.
We are headed out this morning to see if school is in session as I havenāt checked on them since October.
Iād love to meet some of you guys but Iāve got bigger plans on the 23rd. Iām getting hitched in Savannah.
Check out these fellas for a little teaser coming into the next season. SO.MANY. REDFISH. https://youtu.be/aerYuA8-xNg
Great post and video Sossy. I have a question or two. I heard someone in the video say something to the context about them gathering on the outside of an inlet. Are these fish coming from the inlet or from the ocean. Does this happen when the weather turns and starts getting warmer? How do you go about knowing when to go out and find these schools staging on the outside of the inlet? Is it a specific window of water temperature or what is the red flag that ātellsā you it is time to go out and find them bunched up? I hit a day in March last year where I saw allot of similarities with what I saw in the video on a smaller scale. It bordered an inlet just like your video. It was March just like in your video. The fish were thick and the species represented were the same size. They averaged about 23-25 inches. I was chunking fresh mullet. Iām assuming that it is a small window that lasts for a couple of weeks for the big schools bunched up, is that correct??? I realize we are talking about different states but Iām not so sure that S.C. doesnāt experience something similar when the area being fished looks allot like what I saw in your video. I also agree with them rolling in on the incoming tide and at a certain point as it starts going out they just know itās time to stop coming in over the bar. Coming in they have no problem āpushing itā with backs nearly exposed knowing that the water is coming in and that they wonāt get cut off from being able to leave. Going out they realize at a certain point it is over and will not risk dropping in on the trough or hole any longer and it shuts off like a light switch. They become scared knowing they will be cut off from escaping the hole or trough and not have enough water to escape back over the bar. I have found at this point it is critical to have those longer 9-11 ft rods and target the back side of the bar. I have seen many times the bite that was āshut offā from receding water; to turn back on instantly once you are either able to wade to the outer bar or cast to it wit
Sounds like we are in for a really big crowd. Amazing what a hint of spring will do to the fishing crowd.
Low country March surfishing is hit or miss. Fortunately we had a somewhat mild winter keeping water temps up. Good you say? Maybeā¦Maybe not. Hopefully the Atlantic Rays have finished their spawnā¦probably not. They do bend a rod though and my guess is they will be thick.
The Whiting and Black Drum should begin congregating to spawn if the surf temp gets to 60 and holds. Black Drum in the 4-8 lb. range is quite possible. If the water temp 60+ expect some small Sharks.
Red Drumā¦Unless the weather really flips the big breeders will still be offshore and the ājust maturedā Reds will still be schooled up inshore. Rat Reds, maybe? But ya never know.
I did look through about 5 years of pictures from March, the theme was pretty much Atlantic Rays x100, with the occasional nice Whiting and Black Drum.
I would be down to meet. Gail wins I thought I was the only one who called it pop. Everyone calls it soda here. You must be from up North?</font id=āredā>
