What weight are you guys using when deploying bait out a couple hundred yards? Thanks!
It just depends on the bait and strength of the current. Most of the time I use 6 oz sputnik style sinkers and they hold just fine. Use more or less depending on conditions. .
Why are you setting out that far? Most fish are much closer than you think.

I think he’s talking about shark fishing here.
I’ve seen some pretty large sharks in some troughs but that was in warm water.

granted this is a bit more than you really need, but if you have a soft bottom to work with you can go to the workout section of any store and get a 2.5lb plate for $2.99, put a big zip tie on it, then attach to a swivel to the line. again yes this is pretty heavy, but for dropping off the back of the yak its a really cheap option and holds very well. one of the places i fish with rough current (saltwater river near my house 20+ feet deep) even this is barely enough weight to hold say a piece of stingray down when the tides moving strong.
we use a brick tied to the swivel with 20lb mono
