Does anyone fish the Jetties with kayaks in Charleston?
Not that I know of. it would be pretty easy to fish the inside at Sullivan’s island though. The main channel can get pretty sporty.
There is nothing - absolutely nothing- half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. Kenneth Grahame

I saw one of those “high-speed” Hobie Mirage kayaks headed that way a few months ago. I don’t know if he was headed to the Jettys or over behind the Fort. That fella was mid-harbor pumpin those pedals.

Thanks Bill, I have an extra Hobie Outback kayak if you need to use it for the Heroes On The Water. I spent 4 years in the Air Force in Myrtle. Just give me a call 843-270-4210 Thanks, Harold If you want to try the jettie thing that would be cool too.
If any of yall ever wanna do this let me know.
Three-fourths of the Earth’s surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.
Nice Post Palmetto, I think I would like to do it just to say I did it.
Going tomorrow, Feb 9th 2013, at 10am. Henry 4074623882. Call me if interested.
Be careful Henry. Water temp is about 54, air won’t be much warmer. I follow the 120 degree rule and wear cold water protection any time it’s even close.
It can get very sporty out there. Rig to flip, dress to swim.

A lot can go wrong out at the Jetties
Huge wakes from incoming/outgoing boats- rocks have very sharp edges- weather changes in a heartbeat + a LONG PADDLE
I wouldnt Kayak out there unless I had a safety boat tagging along
I fish the Jetties quite often in the late summer with my big boat

I went Saturday with no issues. I sailed out easily. I don’t even have amas or akas although I plan on getting the inflatables for safety purposes. Attached is my latest post at yakangler.com
It was a hoot. No guts, no glory. Thanks for everyone’s concern.
I went Saturday, I love it. If you want to go, let me know. Henry 4074623882.
Just a single sea trout. Read my report above. When I got out there my mast separated and I was sans motor and solo so decided to head back to shore.
Nothing wrong with going out there, but the point was raised about the air & water temps being a bad combo for hypothermia. The times we have gone out there it was warm, plus we always went in a group in case something happened you’d have some help. In your post on YA you wrote that you flipped your kayak in the surf…would you have been able to self-rescue in deep water? Just sayin…
Yes, I believe so. More to the point, I got wet in the surf with the waves which flipped the yak. That wasn’t the issue out in deep water. And by noon when I left really the water wasn’t that cold. I was quite comfortable. I would have loved for you guys to come, but Darrell and you had other plans. C’est la vie mon ami. I have done a lot of risky stuff in my life and fortunately always come out on top, and as such, I believe in my abilities. I have jumped out of planes, done deep water penetration dives, shark dives, sailed the Caribbean, been to Iraq, rode a motorcycle for years, even been in knife fights Lewis, and I always have an angel looking out for me. No guts no glory has always been my motto.
I once shot a man in Reno just to watch him die and, I regularly engage in spirited battles of rock, paper, scissors with my kids. Ain’t going out to the jetties in Winter though. Think of the shrinkage.
Several guys on here have heard my story of flirting with death from hypothermia. Been there, done that, learned my lesson.
We lost an angler in NC last month. I haven’t seen the mortality report yet, cause of death will most likely be drowning with hypothermia as a contributing factor.
If you bite it one day, I’ll tell your story as a cautionary tale to others.
