OK y’all
I got all those nice pads and polish. HOWEVER both my buffers have smaller threads than the disk. The pads are 5/8" and it looks like my Porter Cable and Black and decker are both 1/4 X 20 (looks like). Any idea where I can find any adapters?
Thanks
ZX
I’m really not sure but 1/4 20 sounds awful small to me. Maybe they are 1/2"?

Tools that are meant for car care are 5/8" the tools for around the house are different, this is so someone doesn’t try to attach a buffing pad to their 12000rpm angle grinder and instantly burn a hole through whatever they were trying to polish.
Shoot me a pm sgt.
Well I found a good buffer at Home Depot for just under $50. It has variable speed and a trigger lock. More on the trigger lock later. I took the boat off the lift and put in on the trailer in the yard. I decided to do a little mechanical work before I started cleaning and polishing. It turned out to be one of those “might as well while I’m at it” things.
Pulled the lower unit and rebuilt the water pump.
Changed grease in lower unit
Changed the oil and filter
changed spark plugs
Removed engine mounted water separator and filter, cleaned and replaced filter element
Removed VST tank, cleaned tank and replaced internal filter
Replaced the “F” filter
Installed Keel Guard
After all that I started cleaning. I settled on the 3M Cleaner & wax. I would recommend this product, worked well with the buffer. I would not try it by hand. I wish I knew how to post pictures, you will just have to take my word for it. The boat looks great and the engine runs better than when it was new.
Now a word of caution. Be careful with those big buffers! I started off with the foam buffing disk. They worked fine and didn’t sling very much cleaner/wax. After I had her all buffed up I switched to the big wool pad to put the shine on it. Man it looked great. I went all the way around the boat. The last part was back at the transom. That big wool pad grabbed the cable for the transducer and snatched it off the transducer as well as jerking about three feet out of the rear of the boat. Now picture this . The boat is backed up to the garden fence, I am on my knees with the engine to my left, boat in front and fence to my back and I have a 3000 rpm weed eater from hell in my lap! Remember the trigger lock? Well the trigger lock was locked! I couldn’t turn the (() thing off or run from it. People, that thing put a whooping on me! I had/have red strips all over my butt! I finally threw the (() thing to my right with my left hand.
Oh well, boat looks great, engine runs fine and a little Jack Daniels help
Haha that wool pad does not play. It will grab a wire in a second. Mine grabbed up my VHF antenna cable and thankfully it wasn’t damaged but I learned a very quick lesson! I’m glad you got it looking good. Might want to throw a coat of real wax over the whole thing. Collinite 885 paste wax or 3m paste wax. Will last 10 times longer than the cleaner wax.
