I was talking to a guy the other day who said they trolled for kings around the mouth of the broad river, he said they caught a few. Just curious if anyone else has done this around here?
Kings will be just outside the sound mixed in with spanish in the deeper water. Stay in the deepwater in the channel and use big baits, like a live spanish!

I agree with backlash. The big kings come right into the sound mouths to spawn, mostly in late summer. Troll live Spanish along the channel drop offs. I’ve caught kings in Port Royal, Calibogue, Savannah River Channel and Wassaw Sound, all in mid summer to early fall.

I’ve had 'em take Clark’s spoons while trolling for Spanish…and eat Spanish right off the hook! We caught a 41 lb. smoker trolling the bar at Edisto right off the beach a few years back.

does anybody have the link to the similar one about hunting ducks in the salt marsh in the ACE basin? that one was perfect!!
Several years back on Father’s Day I took our youngest son Cobia fishing and we caught no Cobia but he did land a 42lb King and 30 minutes later a 20lb King. Both on Cobia rigs with a circle hook and a live Menhaden on the bottom fishing the PI Rip. I have seen Kings sky on the rip near the Broad River Bridge, I had a King many many years ago sky a live eel I was reeling in fast because I was pissed at catching no Cobia and ready to go, near the Turtle. If lots of Spanish are around the Kings can be also.

i do…just havent had the time to catch up with him. I’m usually home after 6 most every evening if you or he want to stop by… I also have a lead melting setup that pours 6 and 8 oz bank sinkers if you need to borrow it. Just make sure you are done having kids or bring a respirator .
