Kite Fishing in the surf

Anyone here have any luck kite fishing from the surf? I’m headed to Edisto in a few weeks and thought I’d give it a try if I could catch the wind blowing out. Any tips?

I’ve never tried it and don’t know anyone that has. Post pics and let us know how it works out. It would be a great deployment method if it actually works.

Hopefully I can catch the wind blowing out and give it a try.

you can correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t most surf fish caught in the trough? What would be the point of kite fishing the surf? You don’t have to cast it a country mile.

You can try it but the wind generally blows parallel to the beach and if you get a breeze going out it will be shortlived.

What would you want to target? How far out do you hope to get? As Reel Tight stated, Most all “surf fish”; Whiting, Spot, Croaker, Red/Black Drum, Speckled sea trout, Flounder, Blue fish, Lady fish, Sting rays, Skates, and probably at least a dozen or more species of sharks and other random fish can be caught with in 50yrds. of the beach. Kite fishing is a neat way to present baits though. When the Mackerel start running you could reach them without getting out on the pier. Hey, give it a shot, you never know.
