Decided to try a new spot for the day and caught a lot of fish! Probably about 30-40 fish ranging from bluefish, trout, jacks, and most of all Spanish! Here’s a picture of some of the ones we kept to eat!
I’ve never caught a Spanish but want to. I would appreciate some tips if yo don’t mine sharing them and how do you like to cook yours. Also how would you rate Kure beach to the other piers around the area. Nicely done by the way

Spanish are an aggressive fish and feed in groups. They are a blast to jig/plug for! When we went up to Kure Beach we caught nearly 40 spanish with just jigs/plugs such as gotcha plugs and sabiki rigs with large gold hooks.
As for Kure Beach Pier, the pier itself is a pure fishing use only pier. The pier is what I would consider bottom of the barrel in quality, the wood is not together making it easy to fall all over the pier. The pier is small and only extends 710 ft. Since the pier is private and was recently rebuilt/modified they also rushed the construction and left a ledge around the pier which makes drop netting and gaffing a fish nearly impossible. Also, you are not allowed cast nets to catch bait, no rod holders, and they have no bait tank. Lastly, its 5$ and you are only allowed 1 rod per person.
The upside to all those problems? The fish were everywhere because the mullet were running through so strong its all you could see. Hopefully in week or two those mullet will be here in folley and the fishing will show the same results.
