Had some good luck this morning fishing with dad. Went out around 6:40am as the sun was coming up. Bought bait from the guy at the dam (forget his name). Wind was pretty strong, LOTS of whitecaps and large waves…some of the biggest I’ve seen on Murray in a couple years. We tied up to the biggest tower and had a hard time trying to keep the boat off the tower even though we were downwind. Marked a TON of fish around the 50-80’ mark by the big tower…you know, the one that says “Tommy Bowden has sex with animals”. Dropped 5 lines with live herring and didn’t get a bite for about 40 minutes so we decided to run over to Pine Island cove to get out of the wind. We anchored in about 55’ and let out enough line to drift over to where it was 30’ deep. Put out 5 line with live herring and caught a total of 11. One got away at the boat which would have been #12. All 11 brought on board were anywhere from 14-18". Had a good time on some light tackle. Pictures below
Good job there Steve! Looks like in the next few years we will have some size again on the stripers with as many short fish that have been caught this year

Thanks, I’m trying to get a hold of some friends and head back out today after lunch. I’ve been about 5-6 times since the weather has gotten colder and this is the first time I’ve caught anything. All the other times I’ve tried trolling over by the dam with 2 u-rigs and 2 stretch 25’s. First time I go to shallow water and use live bait I’m catchin em left and right!
Well I went back out last night, picked up some more herring from Lake World this time and went to the same exact spot. Anchored and was in about 20’ of water as the sun was going down. Caught a total of 9 more fish. Only two that had any size to them were the largemouth bass 19" (new personal record) and a nice looking catfish 21". The other seven fish were striper ranging from 9" to 16". All in all I had an awesome day fishing.
Thanks Sharky, I heard him on the radio over by Wessinger Island yesterday when I was at Pine Island. I’ve heard him before but I wasn’t sure if it was on the radio or on here.

Is 68 the most popular channel on Murray for fishin?
Some of the guys I fish with use it, but as far as the most popular? Dunno, I do know the sailing club will use it from time to time for a regatta …Sure makes for some fun if the bite is slow [:0]!
