Large #s of stingrays in the surf....

I’ve been targeting sharks over the past couple of weeks and have caught way too many sting rays instead. Been using live and cut whiting for bait.

Not sure if they are just thick in the surf this time of year or what… Most have been pretty large in size.

Thoughts?

TIA

cownose rays…they school up this time of year.

Yeah, that’s them. Giant pain in the arse.

Any way to avoid them? Getting my bait out farther or will this just pass?

what beach you havin the ray problem at?

Using my ultralight rig I threw a small fiddler in my neighbor’s tidal creek on Sunday morning. There is maybe 2 1/2 feet of water at high tide. Bang! A fifteen pound stingray.

Ohio - Folly beach (south end)

im probably trying the north end tomorrow…doubt its any different. im guessing chunks of fish/crab for sharks wont be safe from big rays?

Excuse me if this is a dumb question but aren’t stingray excellent shark bait? Why not cut one up? I would assume rays would rather want something else than their sister, but just a thought.

I’m so salt life I sued google earth for giving away all of my fishing spot’s.

Stuckonland - Yes, they are good shark baits, but with people all around (kids), I really didn’t want to do that.

Ohio - You interested in doing some shark fishing on Saturday at Folly?

If you use live bait it will cut down on your stingray catches drastically…

Coming down to Chucktown on the 8th or 9th for some serious sharking. Any of you gentlemen have room to stash a couple nice rays in the freezer I can make it worth your while:smiley:

perhaps…gimme til later tonight and ill shoot ya a message
