Over the course of four days this past October beginning on October 3rd, Folly Beach had the best King Mackerel run in the entire history of the pier. Read the article with pics here: https://coastalanglermag.com/folly-pier-news-king-mackerel-run/

Does the structure of the pier attract them or is it a matter of distance from the shore?
Its all about water conditions and bait. Good water and bait by the pier and you got a chance. Not a lot of chances usually. There was a storm offshore that pushed in the good water and when it hit north it drove a lot of stuff our way. There was a stupid good mullet run last year. The entire front beach of folly was mullet around mid to end September. Both carolinas hot king bites. Other places keep reports quiet to attract less fishers. People came from other states to king fish folly that week. I struck out 0 for 3 but had my chances and all the help from the expert’s. It was still cool to see a pier i grew up on have some days like this. I think folly did so good because the king guys all work together. Ill definitely make it to the end of the pier a few times next year.
