Leaving Early

“If you can’t get the student body supportive and excited about the best time in the program’s history then you aren’t going to be successful for long.”

Thats funny and interesting at the same time. These 18yrs olds were 13-14 last time Clemson beat USC. They did not grow up in the bad days. All they know is winning.

Some people become cognizant and aware of things well before 13-14 years of age. I remember it being a social event when I was in school. Hell you had to set the alarm to get drinkin on those noon games. Noon, 3:30, 7:00 or whenever, rain, cold or blazing heat we stayed and supported the team.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Being “cognizant and aware” is different than caring.

My son is 16. but just started to give a dam about USC football. Actually last year was first year he care about Fort Dorchester football.

Mine are 3 and 5 both will watch football with us. The 3yo has a ball in his hands most of the time. His first word was ball and he gets pissed if you change the channel during a football game, unless its Fast n Loud.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking about. Your son was like eight years old… Time flies brother.

Would assume that this is the case with most student sections at most schools.

Finally, someone reasonable. This is a recurring theme. Several friends of mine in college worked at the student newspaper. I guess they still follow it, because in any event, they make bets about which editorial the student newspaper will publish first every year:

  1. Greek life is misunderstood
  2. Students need to not leave the games early
  3. Casual hookups/angry love article

This isn’t a USC thing, it’s just a college student thing. I’ve attended games at Clemson and it doesn’t seem all that different there, although I will say the re-entry policy does seem to help (you couldn’t do this when I was a student at USC, and unless students have a different policy than paying customers, it isn’t the case now).

Might be the first time i’ve been called reasonable on this board. haha.

Will say that I’m guilty too. If its a blow out vs a crappy team a lot of times I will meet my friends at the tailgate and watch the 2nd half on TV while having more beers and playing cornhole. If that makes me a bad fan then…oh well.

Well, I guess we know there is at least one other school that has this problem: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/mexico-state-offers-cash-prizes-entice-students-attend-193856393--ncaaf.html

“According to the Las Cruces Sun-News, attendance has been so bad at New Mexico State home games, that university president Garrey Carruthers and members of the community are offering prizes of $2,000 and $250 and a VIP parking pass to student who are still at Saturday?s game against San Diego State in the fourth quarter.”

Wow. It is sad you have to pay students to stay for the whole game. But I will say there is a huge difference between SDU and USC.
