This info. was sent to me by the Edisto Freespace commitee. I do not know for sure if the landing will be closed but this is what it said word for word.
As we move into the spring and busy season we are excited about the changes in the air and invite everyone to come out and see what’s going on. One last scheduled project that needs to be mentioned is the scheduled repairs to Live Oak Boat Landing. Repairs will begin the first part of March resulting in the dock and landing being closed from March 6 until June 1, 2008.
This is a busy time for boaters utilizing that ramp. I like to launch from there myself.

Political Correctness: A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end!
Update on the repair work…I went boating by yesterday and noticed the ramp is totally removed and is being formed up for a better concrete landing. I did not see any changes to the dock, but just kept my eyes on that new ramp. Looking good

I am heading down to Edisto tonight and fishing tomorrow offshore. I have always used Live Oak. I have heard of Steamboat, but never been there. If you put in at Steamboat, how do you get to open water and are their any issues (sandbars, etc.) to worry about?
Or, should I just try the Marina? seems tight for a 27’ boat though.
Steamboat Landing if fine. You can get mud on your trailer at low tide. Leave out of the landing toward the North Edisto. Follow the markers to offshore keeping bird island to the rightand Seabrook Condos on the left. Just follow the marker buoys out and keep your eyes on the breakers. May seem scary at first but once through, you can do it everytime. To me, Steamboat is a little rough navigating a night. It is a very dark place at night.

You will be fine using the marina ramp in a 27 foot boat. I wouldnt try to drive in and turn around to back it in. As long as you back it down all the way you will be fine. Also if you run out of steam boat it will take you a lot longer to get to open water if you arent use to running out that way. If you decide to run out of steam boat listen to Brads advice.
