Live Oak, as we all now know, is closed for repairs. I rode by it yesterday in the boat. Here’s what it looks like (sorry for the poor quality cell-phone pics). Yes, that’s dirt where the ramp used to be:
Just trying to learn every bit I can about saltwater fishing…
I thought the dock was nice enough, just needed to extend the ramp so it could be used at low tides.
Hopefully they will put up some pilings along the ramp or a floating dock along side the ramp ( kinda like Steamboat ) so the ramp will be more user friendly. I have a gel-coat spideweb cause my motor stalled coming off the trailer and I got washed into the pier.
Thanks for posting this, I was actually planning on taking a ride down and putting the boat in at Live Oak. Reckon I am going to be stuck either using Dawhoo, or Steamboat.
How is the crowd down there it has been about 4 years since i was down there, working EMS on the island i was able to kinda keept up with things down there. But not anymore.
I went to have a look last Saturday when we were there and ran into a female ranger who told us it was on schedule for June 1st ( something about the tides being right for the completion). Hope it’s true, but who knows. Figured she knew the story, though. It will be a relief from launching at the marina.
I was down there yesterday and spoke with the guys working on the ramp. They said that they would finish Friday and the fishermen could have it back. However just because they are gone Friday doesn’t mean the State will let us in until Sunday. I had heard it was going to have a dock in the middle of the ramp, that is not true just a small curb like at Steamboat. Also they did not make the ramp any longer just changed the angle of it. It has three different degrees of angle on it according to the guy working there.
i put in at live oak as well saturady morning… but i would like to say when i rode by the marina there was two SMALL john boats tied off to the dock…haha
It looks worse than it was before. Before I could launch my boat anytime except an hour before or after dead low. Now I may only get it in within an hour of high. The drop off is awful - worse than before - If you go off now - you will tear something up.
Look at it at low tide before you try it or you may tear something up.
I don’t understand how they could screw it up that bad.
I hate to hear that cause it was pretty bad before when you had to get someone to drive around to the marina at low tide to load back up. I guess the marina is going to be the new launch site…wonder where all the trucks and trailers will park?
I talked to a guy with a 17 foot CC and he had to wait 2 hours to put in Sunday. Us guys with offshore boats - even small ones are going to be worse than before. The right side has a hump of concrete at the end that looks like crap.
