Live Shrimp

Heyive been fishing around edisto for just about as long as i can remember, but we just recently really got into the inshore fishing. i was just wondering if anyone out there new were to get some live shrimp around edisto other than having to run all the way over to bennetts point. Ive tried artificials and dead shrimp, but nothing seems to wrork quite as well as those live shrimp on the trout. Any info would be greatly apreciated.

No live shrimp anywhere on the island that I know of. Edisto Watersports only has mudminnows and that’s usually in the summer and fall only.

Nothing on the island. It amazes me that there’s not anywhere to get live shrimp, but there’s absolutely nothing.

Just trying to learn every bit I can about saltwater fishing…

Not many choices at Edisto. Most everyone I’ve seen fishing with live ones - caught their own. You will have plenty of minnows before shrimp. It can be tough to find any. We do all creek mouths and anywhere we see any bait movement. Sometimes you do better just drifting along and blind casting in the mid of creeks in deeper water. Use a cheep net. How fast it is until you fish depends on how lucky you were on bait.

A 1/2# of med market shrimp(kept on ice) work good whole or cut. Fresh is the key! Usually what I do to be safe. When I do catch live ones I seem to catch about the same either live or fresh dead. Ones from market will save time and a busted trip with no bait. Plus if you don’t use them all up - eat them later.
