Im looking at buying a 2010 tacoma. I know the tacomas had issues with frame rust in the north to the point where toyota had a recall and was replacing frames. This was in areas of heavy snow due to the salt on the roads . Anyone using a tacoma to tow and launch in saltwater? Any signs of premature rusting of the undercarriage?
I’ve been using a Tacoma and launching in salt water since 2005. No rust at all. I do rinse it off just like the trailer when I get home. Great truck, almost 200,000 miles with nothing done but routine maintenance.

I have a 2010 Tacoma that is rarely used for launching, No problem, but I don’t put the back wheels in the water, maybe a little rubber. With that said, I pull up the ramp regardless of what I am driving slowly to prevent the saltwater from being thrown all over the undercarriage. When I get back to the house I spray it down with the hose when cleaning the boat as well.
I have seen some folks back their tow vehicle in far enough to cover the bumper and more. I just stand there laughing to myself.

Sounds reassuring!! Thanks guys
I’ve bought my 2005 TRD package in No.Va., lived in Ohio a few years, in NC, and then in S.C. So, my truck has seen plenty of salted roads and a lot of both fresh and salt boat landings. Yeah, I’ve got rust on the under carriage but not enough to compromise it structurally. It’s been a great truck these 150K mi. Hope it will hold up for another 100K just as well.
My only hesitation would be whether it’s enough truck for your towing needs? It’s a pretty lightweight truck and I wouldn’t want to tow a 20’+ heavy CC with it frequently. Towing my father’s 19’ Sailfish, I could definitely tell it was back there.

My 2010 isn’t showing rust on the undercarriage.
I launch in saltwater but don’t get the frame wet.
