Location Advice

In June my wife and I are staying at Harbor Island and are wanting to try a new spot for catching sharks, which is something we really enjoy. In the past we’ve fished Fripp Inlet, but the sharks don’t seem as plentiful as they had been. We’ve also fished Trenchards Inlet with okay success, but seem to have a limited window of opportunity when the current wasn’t pulling hard. I’ve heard people talk about the Morgan River/Parrot Creek area which appears on a map accessible by way of Eddings Creek Landing which is on Jenkins Creek. Anybody familiar with that location and have success there? Any other locations close to Harbor Island? I’m not comfortable fishing real big water out of my 18 foot aluminum boat with a not so deep hull. Thanks for input.

Have you tried surf fishing? Some of the biggest sharks roam those beaches pretty close. They are tagging 10’ tiger sharks not far off the beach regularly right now.

I hooked into a 6’ minimum shark off of Hunting Island this past week. Bit through an 80# wire leader and just about spooled 300 yds of 65# braid. When I finally locked the drag down and brought him to the surface he made one hell of a show thrashing around before popping.

Catch a ray on some shrimp or fresh mullet and cut the wings off for shark bait.

I have heard parrot creek is good fishing, but not sure about for sharks. The back side of Otter Island might be better right where the sandbar drops of to deeper water. Eddings Creek would be the landing for you to use for either area. Love that area, hate that my week is already over out there.

Parrot creek is where I always took people who wanted to catch shark. Where parrot meets the coosaw there is a creek on the east side. Popular area, generally fast action on sharks. Fish the mouth on an outgoing. No giants, but plenty of 3 to 5 ft. Short ride from Eddings.
If its big ray and shark you want, fish the drop off where morgan meets parrot. Big hole, steep drop. Hooked several that I never stopped.
Have you tried the bridge before Hunting?

Geronimo and Jighead, Thanks for your advice and, no, I’ve fished neither the Hunting Island surf nor the bridge over Johnson Creek. We’re not after monsters. Mostly,we target sharpnose and bonnetheads.
