I have never used a speargun and was wondering what kind is the best for your money. Up until now I have been doing it with just your average spear on a stick. I want to be able to have good penetration at about 7-10 ft if this is possible. The local dive shop has one for $30. It has one band and the spear guns total length is approximately 3ft. I didn’t see any name on it. Where is some good places to buy a good gun and what should I expect to pay for it. I don’t mind buying one as song as I get my moneys worth.
Sporasubs are alright for the money. What and where are you spearing? Do you freeshaft?

What type of fish are you targeting? For scuba spearfishing off our coast you cant beat a good 52-54" spearfishing specialties or Ab Biller. Both are excellent grouper/snapper guns. I use a SS 52" commercial gun and love it.

Im looking to target such fish as sheephead, flounder, cobia, grouper, and other reef dwellers. I mostly like to snorkel on inshore jetties and reefs. I am going to take scuba lessons sometime soon and want to make sure that what ever gun I get will be sufficient for both inshore and offshore. How much should I expect to pay for a good gun.
you won’t be able to use your inshore gun offshore…the viz is not good enough.
Suggest a JBL 38 Special for inshore and a AB Biller for cleaner water.
