decided to try out the breach inlet area for the outgoing tide this morn and it was one of the most frustrating trips ive had down here. soon as i anchored the yak mullet start jumping all over and i see some reds busting them so out goes half a crab for bonnetheads/bull reds and i start tossing a topwater at the busting baitfish. no takes but i see 2 or 3 nice bull reds go practically right beside the yak as i keep casting. i change it to a cork and DOA shrimp and no takes along with a plastic jig that usually slays redfish and a saltwater plug since why not the others didnt work. lures clearly werent working so i decided to rig up my casting rod for the bottom with shrimp as the crab sat idly. i spot several fins poppin up and make an adjustment and bonnethead after bonnethead goes right over my baits without touching them. i dont get it…ive been using the same rigs ive caught plenty of red and bonnets on and actively feeding fish had absolutely no interest whether near the kayak or at a distance. this wasnt just today but pretty much every time ive tried breach lately! come to think of it i cant name a very productive day of fishing since i paddled up the tailrace and demolished shad, herring, and towed back a few bonus blue cats while others just stared at me and wondered what idiot would go there in a kayak let alone have their turn to be the guy everyone hates for hogging all the fish once in a while. anyone else have the same problem or do i just suck anymore? (end rant)
Fished breach from the surf this morning. Nothing. Even though as you said bait fish were being chased around everywhere.
ha when i was leaving the area i was in got THICK with cownose rays. figured i couldnt maybe nab one of those if anything on shrimp but no such luck. bonnetheads looked to be all sizes up to near 4 feet and reds from slightly over slot to 40" or so were the sized i could see swimming around. was that you talking to me when i was leaving around 1130 (id be the guy with a kayak over their shoulder) or someone else?
